“What inspired Tokaeki (Deng Jiayi) to study Japanese?”

Good morning!
I’m Tokaeki (Deng Jiayi), a member of the executive committee.
I’m currently studying Business Administration in the Faculty of Commerce.
In this blog, I would like to introduce myself to everyone.
On July 25, 2023, I traveled to Japan. It was my first trip to Japan, and I was very excited about the experience. At the time, I couldn’t speak Japanese, so I had no choice but to communicate in English or use a translation app to ask questions.
I stayed in Japan for 15 days and traveled from Tokyo to Osaka. Along the way, I also visited other places, such as Kyoto. The two places that left the biggest impression on me were Osaka Castle and Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
When I visited these two places, I felt that they somehow looked familiar. Later, I suddenly remembered that they were locations that had inspired places in one of my favorite games. I was truly happy at that moment to realize that I had actually been able to visit these places in person.

The name of this game is SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE, a Japanese video game. It was released on Steam on March 22, 2019, and in December of the same year, it won the Game of the Year award. Set during Japan’s Sengoku period, the game tells the story of a shinobi whose lord has been kidnapped. As the player, you take on the role of the shinobi and risk your life to rescue your lord at all costs.
This game inspired me to start studying Japanese after I returned to my home country. At the same time, I began creating videos about the game and posting them on various platforms. This game is something I will never forget for the rest of my life. SEKIRO contains all the memories of that summer for me.
This is one of the accounts I use on one of the platforms.

I am very honored to be serving as a member of the university festival organizing committee. I will continue to do my very best and work hard. I will do everything I can to make sure I do not disappoint everyone.
