Staff Blog

Kosuke Sakumi
Hey guys! It’s Kosuke Sakumi from the Food Division of the Student Festival Committee. For this staff blog, I want to talk a bit about my study abroad plans. Guess what—this September I’m heading to Canada! Studying abroad has been my dream ever since I entered university, so it honestly feels amazing that it’s finally happening.
I first started thinking about studying abroad back in my second year of high school. I used to watch a YouTuber called Mick, who posted Vlogs about his life overseas—doing volunteer work and music while studying abroad. That’s where I got my inspiration. He actually just came back to YouTube after four years, so if you’re interested in studying abroad, check him out!

Right now, I’m busy preparing for my trip. Different country, different culture it’s a lot! Even small things like, “Should I bring more long sleeves or short sleeves in September?” are stressing me out. And of course, saying goodbye to friends in Japan is tough. I’ve been packing my August full of farewell hangouts. Next time I see everyone, I want to surprise them by speaking English like a native.
But it’s not all stressful stuff—there are lots of things I’m excited for too. I’m planning to surprise my host family with some miso soup and Japanese snacks. They have a dog, and I’m super excited to spoil it with love.
A lot of people in my class are also studying abroad this year, so the next time we’re all together will be in about a year. I’ve got one friend going on the same program as me, but honestly, I have no idea how things will go. There are so many unknowns, but I’m ready to take on the challenge and come back with tons of stories.
Can’t wait to see everyone again after my study abroad adventure!!!
