A Day Trip to Kawagoe – Savoring the Charm of "Little Edo"

Hello! This is Yusei Fowler from the team.
Last weekend, I took a refreshing day trip to Kawagoe, also known as "Little Edo." With its nostalgic townscape and delicious local treats, it turned out to be a perfect getaway. Let me share my experience with you through some photos!

Starting the Day with a Matcha Latte

While strolling through the Kurazukuri (traditional warehouse-style) district, I stumbled upon a cozy café and grabbed a refreshing matcha latte to go. The rich aroma and gentle sweetness of the matcha were just what I needed to beat the summer heat. The wooden interior of the café was warm and inviting—a great place for a short break.

Cooling Down with Fruity Gelato

Next, I stopped by a popular gelato shop called ECCO, known among locals and tourists alike. I chose a double scoop of strawberry and blueberry flavors. The natural fruitiness and refreshing taste gave me a sweet boost after all the walking.

A Sizzling Lunch on the Teppan Grill

For lunch, I visited a local teppanyaki restaurant and ordered okonomiyaki along with a unique Kawagoe-style yakisoba dish loaded with octopus. Watching the food cook right in front of me on the sizzling iron plate was both exciting and appetite-inducing! The staff helped with the grilling, so even beginners like me could enjoy without stress.

Wrapping Up

Kawagoe is truly a food lover’s paradise with so many street snacks and local dishes to enjoy. Of course, landmarks like the Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower) and Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Alley) are must-visits as well.
Next time, I’d love to visit in the evening to see the historic streets beautifully lit up.

See you in the next blog post!
