My Special Place

Hello! I’m Yume Takahashi, a second-year student staff member. My “special place” is Amami Oshima, a southern island of Japan. Since I was little, I’ve visited my relatives there every summer. Swimming in the ocean almost every day and enjoying seafood, local dishes, and tropical fruits have always been the highlights of my summer.

In the early mornings, I sometimes catch sight of sea turtles poking their heads out of the water—it’s always such a moving moment! (The turtle in the photo is from an aquarium, but the ocean in Amami has that kind of natural excitement.)

During my trips, I’ve enjoyed plenty of the island’s specialties, starting with keihan (a local chicken rice dish), as well as tropical fruits like mango, passion fruit, guava, and dragon fruit. Their gentle flavors and vivid colors made me feel the warmth of the island’s people, which deepened my love for this place.
Now, with only a little time left until the school festival, we are carefully preparing so that everyone can enjoy it to the fullest!
