Hello everyone, My name is Md Harsan Chowdhury. Currently, I am a first year student in the department of International Relations (Ikebukuro Campus). Today, I am very excited about the topic that i am going to write about is a festival from my home country which is “The Shakrain Festival”. And in the meanwhile, I will be also showcasing some its beautiful moments celebrated by the local people.
Shakrain Festival is one of the most traditional and oldest annual festivals of Bangladesh. It is one of the most awaited festivals and a significant event in Bangladeshi culture. It is a symbol of Unity and friendship in Bangladesh. It is usually celebrated in both January 14 and January 15 of every year. It is mostly celebrated in the southern part of the capital city which makes it the one specific town in whole Bangladesh which is Puran Dhaka, the oldest town of the capital Dhaka. People from different parts of the country are invited on this day and a huge number of people gather
around the old town just to celebrate the day.
As a part of the celebrations, colourful kites are flown high from the rooftops around the area in the afternoon and it often takes the form of kite fighting in which participants try to snag eachother’s kites or cut other kites down which makes it more fun. And when the night falls.
Rooftop DJ Party and fireworks light up the sky of Old Dhaka. Music awakens the whole town,
while people keep dancing from their hearts. Every household competes to see who can cook the largest variety of pitas, sweets and many food items specially Kacchi Biryiani, a tradional Bengali food of Old Dhaka is also served on this occasional day. After midnight, there are games similar to dice game that are played but with fruits.
In a nutshell, People find their happiness while celebrating the festival with thousand different peoples from all around the country with warm hospitalities and thus, a new friendship is created and a strong unity is seen in the people of the country. That is why, I found this traditional
festival very interesting and its one of my favourite. Therefore, Thank you so much for reading and watching it.
